Lexington's Kentucky Theatre
Welcome to Lexington's Living Room
Directions and Information
The KENTUCKY THEATRE, originally billed as " . . . a veritable place of enchantment" opened in Lexington, Kentucky on October 10,1922. The plush Italian-renaissance interior includes classical cameos and stained glass domes. It's a beautiful hall, every seat is wonderful and it sounds beautiful during movies and concerts. The theatre began showing silent films in the early 30's, moved on to talking feature films and has remained, for the last 70 years, as the premier arts house in central Kentucky.
Next door to the Kentucky, in 1929, a somewhat smaller theatre opened. The State Theatre as it has come to be known, is also a lush and wonderful room, all seats are comfortable and a great view of the stage. Today the State, as part of the Kentucky Theatre complex, shows excellent movies and art films and is known worldwide as the home of the weekly live-audience broadcast of Michael Jonathon's WOODSONGS OLD-TIME RADIO HOUR.
The Theatres are located at 214 Main Street in Lexington. The office is open after 4pm, phone 859-231-6997. FREE PARKING for all theatre events one block down from the theatre (on the left) at the ANNEX GARAGE. Click Here for movie showtimes.
